「Episode 2: How to Learn Hiragana Fast」(ひらがなを楽しく早く覚える方法)

🧩 What is Hiragana?

Hiragana is one of the three writing systems in Japanese:

  1. Hiragana (ひらがな) – basic alphabet for native Japanese words
  2. Katakana (カタカナ) – used for foreign words (like “coffee” → コーヒー)
  3. Kanji (漢字) – Chinese-origin characters that represent meaning

You should always start with Hiragana.
Why? Because it’s used everywhere — in books, signs, menus, and daily life.

🧠 Step 1: Learn in Small Groups (あ–お, か–こ…)

There are 46 Hiragana characters, but don’t worry!
They are grouped by sound.
Start with 5 at a time:

RowCharactersRomajiExample Word
あ行あ い う え おa i u e oあい (love), うえ (up)
か行か き く け こka ki ku ke koかお (face), こえ (voice)
さ行さ し す せ そsa shi su se soすし (sushi), そら (sky)

👉 Practice writing and saying them out loud.
Use pen and paper — your brain remembers shapes better when you write by hand!

🎧 Step 2: Listen and Repeat

Hiragana has rhythm!
Try this:

  1. Listen to a Hiragana chart on YouTube (search: “Hiragana song” 🎵)
  2. Say each sound after the speaker.
  3. Repeat daily for 10 minutes.

You’ll start remembering by sound, not just by sight.

✍️ Step 3: Use Flashcards or Apps

There are great free tools to practice Hiragana:

  • Anki (flashcard app for spaced repetition)
  • LingoDeer or Duolingo Japanese
  • Tofugu Hiragana Game (fun and visual)

These apps show, pronounce, and test each character until you remember them naturally.

🕓 Step 4: Practice Every Day (Just 10 Minutes!)

Consistency beats long study sessions.
Example plan:

DayGoal
1あ〜お
2か〜こ
3さ〜そ
4た〜と
5な〜の
6は〜ほ
7ま〜も
8や〜よ
9ら〜ろ
10わ・を・ん

In just 10 days, you can master all Hiragana! 🌟

🎨 Step 5: Use Hiragana in Real Life

Try reading simple Japanese words:

  • すし (sushi)
  • ねこ (cat)
  • たまご (egg)
  • あさ (morning)

Even if you don’t know the meaning at first, just being able to read them feels amazing!

💬 Final Message

Learning Hiragana is your first big victory.
Once you can read it, you’ll finally see how Japanese really sounds — not through English, but through your own eyes and ears.

“Don’t aim to be perfect. Aim to be consistent.”
