「Episode 2: How to Learn Hiragana Fast」(ひらがなを楽しく早く覚える方法)
🧩 What is Hiragana?
Hiragana is one of the three writing systems in Japanese:
- Hiragana (ひらがな) – basic alphabet for native Japanese words
- Katakana (カタカナ) – used for foreign words (like “coffee” → コーヒー)
- Kanji (漢字) – Chinese-origin characters that represent meaning
You should always start with Hiragana.
Why? Because it’s used everywhere — in books, signs, menus, and daily life.
🧠 Step 1: Learn in Small Groups (あ–お, か–こ…)
There are 46 Hiragana characters, but don’t worry!
They are grouped by sound.
Start with 5 at a time:
| Row | Characters | Romaji | Example Word |
|---|---|---|---|
| あ行 | あ い う え お | a i u e o | あい (love), うえ (up) |
| か行 | か き く け こ | ka ki ku ke ko | かお (face), こえ (voice) |
| さ行 | さ し す せ そ | sa shi su se so | すし (sushi), そら (sky) |
👉 Practice writing and saying them out loud.
Use pen and paper — your brain remembers shapes better when you write by hand!
🎧 Step 2: Listen and Repeat
Hiragana has rhythm!
Try this:
- Listen to a Hiragana chart on YouTube (search: “Hiragana song” 🎵)
- Say each sound after the speaker.
- Repeat daily for 10 minutes.
You’ll start remembering by sound, not just by sight.
✍️ Step 3: Use Flashcards or Apps
There are great free tools to practice Hiragana:
- Anki (flashcard app for spaced repetition)
- LingoDeer or Duolingo Japanese
- Tofugu Hiragana Game (fun and visual)
These apps show, pronounce, and test each character until you remember them naturally.
🕓 Step 4: Practice Every Day (Just 10 Minutes!)
Consistency beats long study sessions.
Example plan:
| Day | Goal |
|---|---|
| 1 | あ〜お |
| 2 | か〜こ |
| 3 | さ〜そ |
| 4 | た〜と |
| 5 | な〜の |
| 6 | は〜ほ |
| 7 | ま〜も |
| 8 | や〜よ |
| 9 | ら〜ろ |
| 10 | わ・を・ん |
In just 10 days, you can master all Hiragana! 🌟
🎨 Step 5: Use Hiragana in Real Life
Try reading simple Japanese words:
- すし (sushi)
- ねこ (cat)
- たまご (egg)
- あさ (morning)
Even if you don’t know the meaning at first, just being able to read them feels amazing!
💬 Final Message
Learning Hiragana is your first big victory.
Once you can read it, you’ll finally see how Japanese really sounds — not through English, but through your own eyes and ears.
“Don’t aim to be perfect. Aim to be consistent.”
